Last night’s Academy Awards celebrated the best and brightest in Hollywood. We’ve got all of the highlights of the hilarious hijinks, stylish celebs, big winners, and a few surprises!

Octavia received a standing ovation when she was named the winner for her role in The Help, her first nomination from the academy. The veteran character actress tearfully accepted the award from Christian Bale, still shocked about her win. “Thank you, academy, for putting me with the hottest guys in the room. I’m sorry! I’m freaking out!”

The renowned performance troupe behind the newest production, Iris, staged a high-flying homage to film with memorable moments from movies serving as a backdrop, including such greats as North by Northwest, Titanic, Spiderman, and Gone with the Wind. Host Billy Crystal was impressed and said, “I pulled a hamstring just watching that.”

Robert brought out a camera crew to join him and Gwyneth Paltrow onstage to present Best Documentary to capture what he called “live documentary.” She was quick to imply that his new "art form" is actually called the news. Robert then joked he had turned down George Clooney’s role in The Descendants, but he shouldn’t worry with The Avengers set to hit theaters this summer.

Christopher made history by becoming the oldest person to win an Oscar for his role in Beginners, surpassing Jessica Tandy who was 80 when she won for Driving Miss Daisy. At the age of 82, he punctuated his win with, “You’re only two years older than me, darling. Where have you been all life? I have a confession to make. When I first emerged from my mother’s womb, I was already rehearsing my Oscar speech.”

This comedic duo donned white tuxes and paraded onstage crashing cymbals to present Best Original Song and Best Original Score. Zach muddled his last name and both dropped the cymbals repeatedly when announcing the winner. The trophy girl lent a helping hand by holding one of the instruments while Ferrell opened the winner’s envelope.

Angelina oozed sex appeal on the red carpet in a black strapless Atelier Versace dress but as the actress strut onto the stage to present the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, she thrust out her right leg from the gown’s large slit. The pose prompted winner and Community star Jim Rash to pull the same pose while the actress’ gorgeous gam received its own Twitter handle.

The ladies of the smash-hit Bridesmaids brought a huge amount of funny for the time they were on. From Melissa McCarthy propositioning Billy Crystal in his dressing room, to the short-to-long film comparisons before presenting Best Short Film (Live Action), to reviving the Scorsese drinking game after a poetic introduction for the Best Documentary (Short Subject).

Jean won for his role as the silent film star who loses his shine, George Valentin, in the homage to silent film, The Artist. He is also the first French man to win an Oscar. The charming actor spoke up for his character in his acceptance speech with, “If George Valentin could speak, he’d say, ‘Merci beaucoup, formidable!’ I love you!”

Meryl stunned many when her name was called to receive the high honor, beating out Viola Davis for her role in The Help. She last received an Oscar for Sophie’s Choice 30 years ago but has racked up a record of 17 nominations but knew not everyone would be happy. “When they called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America go, ‘Oh, no why her again?’ But whatever.”

The Artist laid claim to the big prize of Best Picture to win a total of five Oscars. The black-and-white movie also made history by being the first silent film to take top honors since the first Oscars ceremony 83 years ago. Director Michel Hazanavicius also took home the honor of Best Director for the old-school homage, and the film picked up the prizes for costume design and original score.
